Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

En possession de telles promesses, bien-aimés, purifions-nous de toute souillure de la chair et de l' esprit, achevant de nous sanctifier dans la crainte de Dieu.

Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.

Ataovy omby anay ny fonareo. Fa izahay tsy nanisy ratsy olona, na nanimba olona, na nanambaka olona, na iza na iza.

Faites-nous place en vos coeurs. Nous n' avons fait tort à personne, nous n' avons ruiné personne, nous n' avons exploité personne.

I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with you.

Je ne dis pas cela pour vous condamner. Je vous l' ai déjà dit : vous êtes dans nos coeurs à la vie et à la mort.

Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.

For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.

Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.

et non seulement par son arrivée, mais encore par la consolation que vous-mêmes lui aviez donnée. Il nous a fait part de votre ardent désir, de votre désolation, de votre zèle pour moi, si bien qu' en moi la joie a prévalu.

For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.

Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.

je m' en réjouis maintenant, non de ce que vous avez été attristés, mais de ce que cette tristesse vous a portés au repentir. Car vous avez été attristés selon Dieu, en sorte que vous n' avez, de notre part, subi aucun dommage.

For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

La tristesse selon Dieu produit en effet un repentir salutaire qu' on ne regrette pas ; la tristesse du monde, elle, produit la mort.

For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

Eny, fahatezerana re izany! tahotra re izany! faniriana re izany! zotom-po re izany! famaizana re izany! Fatratra mihitsy ny nampisehoanareo fa nadio hianareo ny amin' izany raharaha izany!

Voyez plutôt ce qu' elle a produit chez vous, cette tristesse selon Dieu. Quel empressement ! Que dis-je ? Quelles excuses ! Quelle indignation ! Quelle crainte ! Quel ardent désir ! Quel zèle ! Quelle punition ! Vous avez montré de toutes manières que vous étiez innocents en cette affaire.

Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.

Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.

Voilà ce qui nous a consolés. A cette consolation personnelle s' est ajoutée une joie bien plus grande encore, celle de voir la joie de Tite, dont l' esprit a reçu apaisement de vous tous.

For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth.

Ary raha nisy nataoko rehareha taminy ny aminareo, dia tsy mahamenatra ahy izany; fa tahaka ny nilazanay marina taminareo ny zavatra rehetra, dia tonga marina koa ny reharehanay tamin' i Titosy ny aminareo.

Ary na mba nirehareha ny aminareo eo anatrehan' i Tito koa aza aho, dia tsy nahamenatra ahy izany, satria noho izahay samy nilaza ny marina taminareo mandrakariva, dia marina ny reharehako ny aminareo tamin' i Tito.

Que si devant lui je me suis quelque peu glorifié à votre sujet, je n' ai pas eu à en rougir. Au contraire, de même qu' en toutes choses nous vous avons dit la vérité, ainsi ce dont nous nous sommes glorifiés auprès de Tite s' est trouvé être la vérité.

And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him.

I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you in all things.
